The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development is responsible for:
Concerning Housing:
Implementing the low-cost housing policy;
Monitoring compliance with housing standards.
Concerning Urban Development:
Preparing and monitoring the implementation of city development and reconstruction strategies, in collaboration with the relevant administrations ;
Preparing and implementing integrated social development strategies of the various urban centres;
Preparing and implementing urban infrastructure management strategies, in cooperation with the Ministry of Public Works;
Preparing and implementing strategies to improve traffic in major urban centres, in cooperation with relevant ministries and Regional and Local Authorities;
Beautifying urban centres, in cooperation with the relevant ministries and Regional and Local Authorities;
planning and controlling city development;
monitoring the preparation of Urban Master Plans of project, in collaboration with Regional and Local Authorities;
Monitoring in compliance with sanitation and drainage standards;;
Monitoring in compliance with hygiene and sanitation, removal and/or treatment of household waste;
Liaison with international organizations involved in the development of major cities, in cooperation with the Ministry of External Relations ;
It shall monitor the activities of the Professional Orders of Architects, Town Planners and Surveyors;
It shall work in close collaboration with Regional and Local Authorities and have supervisory authority over the Cameroon Real Estate Corporation (SIC), projects and bodies contributing to housing and urban development ;
It shall be assisted by a Secretary of State for housing.
